Russian ministry to make orders soon to carry voice over LTE
TVER, May 27 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Communications and Mass Media Ministry will approve orders during the nearest one to two months authorizing operators to transfer voice calls via LTE networks, which are currently used only for the mobile Internet, Minister Nikolai Nikiforov told reporters Friday.
“We’ve almost accomplished work on a regulatory base to transfer voice in LTE networks, co-called the voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) technology,” Nikiforov said.
“(The regulatory base) will actually make possible to carry voice and take usual phone calls in the conditions when an operator or a device functions only in the LTE network, without any 2G or 3G.”
The VoLTE technology can be launched in the country in 2016. “Operators have already tested it in high frequency ranges, and now we are waiting for implementation in low ranges,” the minister said.
